Kicks by Au/Ra
This week I’m spotlighting a song that intrigued me from the first play. “Kicks” by Au/Ra gives an interesting perspective on musical taste. In the song, she talks about how she enjoys the music she makes, even if it’s not following the trends of today. She knows that her music isn’t necessarily the most popular (“your mainstream runs against mine”) but she doesn’t care because she’s not “chasing dollar bills.” I love the message. She’s just happy to be doing what she loves. And I love the way she tells it.
I’m personally a bigger fan of the acoustic version. I love the vibe of the piano, and it’s clear how beautiful her voice is in this setting. Whether you’re a fan of the original or the acoustic, I think you’ll get your “kicks” with this song.
